In what’s easily the most work I’ve done on a website, I have officially uploaded the revision to the template I’d start with a couple of weeks ago. It’s been fun, I’ve learned more about PHP, CSS, Photoshop, and Wordpress than I probably cared to but glad I did it. I am finally able to call this theme my own. Yes, I did start with the foundational theme of Hemingway but tweaked it out further than I ever have before and short of the layout, haven’t seen something similiar.
Visual/CSS Point of View
I just wanted something a bit more vibrant and friendly than the Chaoctic Soul Theme I was using before. It was a getting to be a bit of a downer for myself. Oh, and I made the decision to optimize it for 1024×768 just based off my Mint stats.
Data Point of View
I still have some things that I’d like to finish up with the site but this is definitely the bulk of it. I wanted this design to basically allow it to be the focal point of what’s going on with my life. So I included as you’ll see down in the sidebar (which is really the bottom bar) the various feeds that are coming in from certain web services. I use these regularly so it will make for a new experience each time people come back to the site.
Plug-ins
Plugins for Wordpress is like Extensions(Add-ons) to Firefox. It is what makes the software great. I am running more plugins than I ever had before, I haven’t made this theme ‘widget friendly’ yet but don’t know if I’ll ever need to.
